To become a lawyer (advokat) in the Czech Republic you complete a master's-level law degree (Mgr.), typically a five-year programme at a Czech law faculty, or a recognized equivalent. You then register with the Czech Bar Association and work as a trainee lawyer (advokatni koncipient) for the required period (about three years) under a supervising advocate. After the traineeship you pass the bar examination (advokatni zkouska) administered by the Czech Bar Association and take the prescribed oath. On passing, you are enrolled as an advokat and may practise independently.
The Czech Bar Association (Ceska advokatni komora, CAK) is the self-governing national regulator that admits and oversees lawyers (advokati) and administers the bar examination.
