To become a lawyer in Iran, first earn at least an LLB law degree (or an equivalent qualification in jurisprudence/Islamic law) from an accredited Iranian university. You then sit the competitive multiple-choice bar entrance examination, which has limited annual quotas. After passing, you complete an 18-month apprenticeship under the supervision of a senior licensed attorney and must pass a final written-and-oral qualifying examination known as the ekhtebar. On success you take the oath, register with the Iran Central Bar Association (Kanun-e Vokala) and receive your licence; eligibility and age conditions set by the bar apply. A separate judiciary-supervised route under Article 187 licenses legal advisers outside the bar.
