China Compliance Officer

Reporting Line: Head of Compliance APAC

Location: Shanghai

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

 

About the Team

This role sits within the APAC Compliance team, responsible for the implementation and day-to-day management of compliance programs across China. The team covers four key pillars: Business Ethics, Anti-trust, Anti-Money Laundering, and Data Compliance. The role works closely with other APAC market/country/regional teams and the Central Compliance function at headquarters, supporting the effective execution of the Group’s China Empowerment strategy.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supported group CMS (Compliance Management System) implementation and localization in China
  • Independently manage and implement the Group’s and China’s business ethics compliance policies and programs, including policy localization, compliance risk assessments at subsidiary level, third-party due diligence,  case remediation action implementation and related training.
  • Support China privacy compliance efforts, covering Personal Information Protection (PIPL), automotive sector critical data compliance, and AI deployment and usage compliance. Monitor regulatory developments in China’s data and privacy landscape, assess business impact, and drive implementation of compliance measures. Coordinate cross-functional teams (Legal, IT, Business) to ensure effective execution of data governance requirements.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve China anti-trust compliance training programs.
  • Support AML-related compliance matters across China operations.
  • Serve as the primary compliance contact for business teams, delivering practical, commercially minded advice.
  • Independently drive, execute, and manage assigned compliance projects.
  • Provide other departmental support as directed by the APAC Compliance Head.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Law degree or above (PRC and/or other recognized jurisdictions).
  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Minimum 3 years in private practice at a reputable law firm in a compliance or legal role.
  • In-house compliance or legal experience at a multinational corporation (MNC).
  • Prior experience in privacy compliance strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the automotive sector or its supply chain is an advantage.
  • Solid knowledge of China’s compliance regulatory framework, including but not limited to PIPL, , Anti-Unfair Competition Law, and Anti-Monopoly Law.
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently, deliver results in a lean-resource environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English.
  • Strong cross-cultural and cross-functional collaboration skills; solution-oriented team player, able to work effectively with headquarters, regional teams, and internal departments.
  • Diligent, detail-oriented, and responsible with strong execution capability.
  • Mature professional judgment and interpersonal skills, with the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and manage cross-departmental relationships effectively.
