Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director - Accounting & Compliance based in India.

This is a senior finance leadership opportunity responsible for establishing and scaling the India finance function within a growing international organization. You will serve as the primary finance leader for the India entity, overseeing accounting, statutory compliance, tax, payroll finance support, treasury coordination, and financial governance. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on ownership of financial close, reporting, controls, and regulatory obligations. You will lead the transition from an outsourced finance model to a scalable in-house operation, establishing processes and controls that support long-term growth. You will partner closely with global accounting teams, senior stakeholders, external advisors, and cross-functional teams. The role also provides an opportunity to play a key role in an ERP implementation while strengthening financial governance and operational excellence.

Accountabilities:

    • Serve as the primary finance leader for the India entity, overseeing accounting, statutory compliance, tax, payroll finance support, treasury coordination, and financial governance.
    • Own the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of monthly financial close activities, including account reconciliations, reporting packages, and consolidation inputs.
    • Lead the transition of finance operations from an external service provider to a scalable, internally managed India finance function.
    • Define finance roles, responsibilities, processes, controls, timelines, and governance structures to support the transition and ongoing operations.
    • Ensure accounting records and financial processes comply with US GAAP, India statutory requirements, the Companies Act, internal policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
    • Coordinate India statutory audits, Registrar of Companies filings, tax registrations, corporate secretarial requirements, and other regulatory obligations with internal teams and external advisors.
    • Establish and monitor scalable finance policies, month-end close procedures, reconciliation standards, approval workflows, and internal controls aligned with organizational standards and SOX requirements.
    • Oversee and coordinate treasury activities for India operations, including multi-currency transactions and related financial processes.
    • Coordinate indirect tax, including GST, corporate income tax, TDS/withholding tax, payroll-related compliance, and other India-specific regulatory filings.
    • Support intercompany accounting, consolidation activities, transfer pricing documentation, and related local compliance requirements.
    • Partner with global finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate consolidation, reporting, and alignment between India operations and international financial processes.
    • Support the implementation of Workday or comparable ERP technology for India operations, including process design, data readiness, user acceptance testing, control requirements, statutory reporting, and post-implementation stabilization.
    • Strengthen internal controls and financial governance while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, scalability, and risk management.
    • Lead, develop, and retain finance team members while establishing a culture of accountability, collaboration, integrity, and continuous improvement.
    • Communicate complex accounting, compliance, and financial matters clearly to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Operate independently within broad areas of responsibility, exercising sound judgment when addressing complex or ambiguous financial and regulatory matters.
    • Requirements:

      • 10+ years of progressive professional accounting experience, including ownership of month-end close and financial reporting processes across multiple accounting and finance disciplines.
      • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including performance management, employee development, compensation, and retention responsibilities.
      • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and India statutory accounting requirements, including Companies Act compliance; working knowledge of IFRS principles is advantageous.
      • Demonstrated experience managing international subsidiaries and consolidation processes, ideally within an organization with a US-based parent company.
      • Strong treasury management experience, including oversight of multi-currency financial operations.
      • Proven experience managing GST, corporate income tax coordination, TDS/withholding taxes, payroll-related compliance, and other India-specific regulatory filings.
      • Recognized professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
      • Experience supporting intercompany transactions, transfer pricing documentation, and associated compliance obligations is preferred.
      • Hands-on experience with Workday, Oracle, or a comparable cloud-based ERP platform is highly desirable.
      • Experience supporting SOX compliance programs, internal controls, and financial governance frameworks.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear recommendations for senior and non-financial stakeholders.
      • Demonstrated ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and work effectively with global finance teams, external advisors, and business partners.
      • Strong decision-making skills and the ability to operate independently across a broad scope of responsibilities and ambiguity.
      • Proven leadership capability, with a track record of building effective teams, developing talent, and driving operational transformation.
      • Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, integrity, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving financial and compliance risks.
      • Benefits:

        • Annual salary range of ₹2,337,930 to ₹3,056,130, with the final offer determined by relevant skills, experience, location, and business requirements.
        • Potential eligibility for additional compensation, including performance-based bonuses and/or other applicable incentives.
        • Opportunity to build and lead a finance function for an India entity within a growing international organization.
        • Significant ownership and visibility across accounting, compliance, tax, treasury, reporting, controls, and financial operations.
        • Opportunity to lead the transition from outsourced finance operations to a scalable in-house model.
        • Exposure to global accounting, international subsidiaries, consolidation, US GAAP, India statutory compliance, and SOX controls.
        • Opportunity to contribute to a major ERP implementation and financial transformation initiative.
        • Remote working opportunity from anywhere in India.
        • Opportunities for professional growth, leadership development, and expanded responsibility.
        • Collaborative environment with global finance and cross-functional teams.
        • Inclusive workplace focused on integrity, transparency, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
        • Opportunities to influence finance strategy, processes, governance, and operational efficiency as the India organization grows.
