About the role:
The Head of Privacy, AI & Data Governance serves as Takeda's enterprise leader for privacy, responsible AI governance, and the governance of personal data. As a member of the Global Ethics & Compliance Leadership Team, this leader develops the governance, capabilities, and strategic partnerships that enable the organization to responsibly use data and emerging technologies while maintaining the trust of patients, healthcare professionals, employees, regulators, and society.
By embedding privacy, responsible AI, and trusted data governance into business strategy, technology, and innovation, this role helps Takeda responsibly accelerate innovation while meeting evolving regulatory expectations and strengthening stakeholder trust.
How you will contribute:
- Serve as the primary advisor to executive leadership on enterprise privacy, responsible AI governance, and trusted use of personal data.
- Partner with business, Digital, Data & Technology (DD&T), Cybersecurity, Legal, HR, R&D, Commercial, and other stakeholders to enable responsible innovation through practical, risk-based governance.
- Translate evolving privacy, AI, and data governance expectations into practical business guidance that supports innovation while protecting individuals.
- Foster a culture where privacy and responsible technology use are viewed as strategic business enablers and drivers of trust.
- Lead Takeda's global privacy program and enterprise privacy governance framework.
- Develop and oversee the enterprise framework for responsible AI governance, ensuring the responsible use of AI technologies involving personal data and other sensitive information.
- Lead governance for the responsible collection, use, sharing, retention, transfer, and protection of personal information across the enterprise.
- Embed Privacy by Design and responsible data governance into business processes, digital initiatives, research, commercial activities, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct horizon scanning to identify emerging privacy, AI, technology, regulatory, and societal developments, translating those insights into governance strategies and practical business guidance.
- Develop enterprise privacy policies, standards, and governance frameworks that enable consistent, scalable, and globally aligned practices.
- Enable responsible innovation by partnering with Digital, Cybersecurity, Data, Legal, and business leaders throughout the development and deployment of new technologies.
- Develop practical governance frameworks that enable emerging technologies while maintaining appropriate safeguards for personal information and responsible AI.
- Promote scalable, risk-based approaches to privacy, AI governance, and trusted data use that support business objectives.
- Continuously evolve governance approaches to address changing technologies, regulatory expectations, and societal expectations.
- Serve as an active member of the Global Ethics & Compliance Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise strategy, organizational effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Partner across Ethics & Compliance functions to integrate privacy, AI governance, compliance, cybersecurity, and enterprise risk management into a coordinated governance model.
- Represent Takeda externally with regulators, industry groups, and other stakeholders, helping shape leading practices in privacy and responsible technology governance where appropriate.
- Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team recognized for strategic thinking, technical expertise, collaboration, and business partnership.
- Foster an inclusive culture grounded in curiosity, innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Develop organizational capability in enterprise privacy, responsible AI governance, and trusted data stewardship
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience developing and leading enterprise privacy, responsible AI governance, data governance, cybersecurity governance, or digital trust programs within complex, global, and highly regulated organizations.
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Law, Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Significant in-house leadership experience within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Deep expertise in enterprise privacy, responsible AI governance, trusted data governance, and global privacy regulatory requirements and expectations.
- Strong knowledge of digital technologies, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, and governance considerations associated with emerging technologies.
- Demonstrated success designing and implementing governance frameworks that enable responsible innovation while ensuring regulatory compliance and the protection of individual rights.
- Proven experience partnering with executive leadership to influence enterprise strategy, governance, and technology-related decisions.
- Track record of building trusted, collaborative partnerships across Digital, Cybersecurity, Legal, Data, and business functions.
- Experience leading organizational transformation, developing high-performing teams, and mentoring future leaders.
- Exceptional executive presence, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and regulatory concepts into practical business guidance.
- Demonstrated success operating within global organizations and navigating diverse cultural and regulatory environments.

Boston, MAU.S. Base Salary Range:
$320,000.00 - $440,000.00
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
