Job Summary
Provides expert advice on intellectual property matters to support business objectives. Manages the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights effectively.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Excel on one specific area or be a generalist able to deal with different IP aspects:
• IP Value capturing: Evaluate Signify's own IP portfolio; investigate infringement of Signify’s IP rights by third parties; participate in litigation against third parties (offensive); prepare business cases including financial valuations, project planning and other materials and arguments with regard to licensing projects; lead / participate in licensing negotiations with third parties
• IP Counseling: Deal with various types of IP agreements, joint development agreements, contract research agreements, supply/purchase, divestitures, acquisitions, etc.
• IP Value contribution: Oppose third parties' IP; make IP investigations for release of new products; pro-active IP-portfolio acquisition; handle IP infringement accusations by third parties; participate in litigation against Signify(defensive).
• IP portfolio management: acquisition of creations; investigate and select creations as to the value added to the IP portfolio; assess protect-ability of creations; manage/draft applications, prosecute applications, defend against attacks on our IP in written and oral proceedings; instruct colleagues in other countries; approve publications for release after screening for patentable subject matter.
• Capability: representations/committees: internal IP and external promotional activities with respect to IP awareness; maintain own professional level by, among other activities, keep up-to-date with legal/technical developments and share own knowledge.
Critical Experiences
• Deeply understand Electronics Engineering technical knowledge and Power Electronics technology.
• Have good experience on patent filing/OA response/Invalidation.
• Academic level plus specific IP training or licensing training.
• Contribute to business decisions by providing convincing advice.
• Show an understanding of the IP process and is able to handle standard situations independently.
• Understand communications from IP authorities and formulates replies independently.
• Exploit synergies across the IP function and stimulates colleagues to generate and implement new ideas to optimize services.
• Combine one or more of the roles: technical expert, lawyer/solicitor, counsellor and entrepreneur.
• Actively consult experts where appropriate to achieve optimal advice.
