This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director – Accounting & Compliance based in India.

This is a senior finance leadership opportunity with responsibility for building and scaling the accounting and compliance function for an India-based entity.
You will oversee accounting, statutory compliance, tax, treasury coordination, payroll finance support, and financial governance in a growing international environment.
The role offers significant ownership, including transitioning finance operations from an external provider to a scalable in-house model.
You will work closely with global finance teams and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, and regulatory compliance.
A key focus will be establishing robust processes aligned with US GAAP, Indian statutory requirements, SOX principles, and local regulations.
You will also play an important role in an ERP implementation, supporting process design, controls, data readiness, testing, and stabilization.
This role is ideal for an experienced accounting leader who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking, people leadership, and the ability to operate independently in a complex environment.

Accountabilities:

    • Lead the accounting and finance function for the India entity, with responsibility for accounting operations, statutory compliance, tax, payroll finance support, treasury coordination, and financial governance.
    • Own the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the monthly financial close, including account reconciliations, reporting packages, and consolidation inputs for global finance teams.
    • Lead the transition from outsourced finance operations to a scalable in-house finance model, establishing clear responsibilities, processes, controls, timelines, and oversight mechanisms.
    • Ensure accounting records and financial activities comply with US GAAP, Indian statutory accounting requirements, the Companies Act, internal policies, and applicable regulatory standards.
    • Coordinate statutory audits, Registrar of Companies filings, tax registrations, corporate secretarial activities, and other regulatory requirements with internal teams and external advisors.
    • Establish and monitor finance policies, close procedures, reconciliation processes, approval workflows, and internal controls aligned with organizational standards and SOX requirements.
    • Oversee India-specific tax matters, including GST, corporate income tax coordination, TDS/withholding taxes, payroll-related compliance, and other statutory obligations.
    • Support treasury activities and multi-currency financial operations, ensuring appropriate controls and coordination with global finance teams.
    • Manage and develop finance team members, including performance management, professional development, compensation, and retention.
    • Support the implementation of a cloud-based ERP system, including process design, data readiness, user acceptance testing, control requirements, statutory reporting, and post-implementation stabilization.
    • Support intercompany accounting, consolidation activities, transfer pricing documentation, and related compliance requirements.
    • Act as a trusted finance partner to senior stakeholders, translating complex accounting and regulatory matters into clear business guidance.
    • Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls, increase scalability, and enhance the overall efficiency of the India finance organization.
    • Requirements:

      • 10+ years of progressive professional accounting and finance experience, including ownership of month-end close and financial reporting activities across multiple finance disciplines.
      • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including performance management, employee development, compensation, and retention.
      • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, Indian statutory accounting requirements, and Companies Act compliance, with working knowledge of IFRS concepts.
      • Proven experience managing international subsidiaries and consolidation activities, ideally within an organization with a U.S.-based parent company.
      • Experience with treasury management and multi-currency financial operations.
      • Strong knowledge of Indian tax and regulatory requirements, including GST, corporate income tax coordination, TDS/withholding taxes, payroll-related compliance, and statutory filings.
      • Experience with intercompany transactions, transfer pricing documentation, and related compliance obligations is highly desirable.
      • CPA, Chartered Accountant, or another recognized professional accounting qualification, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience.
      • Experience with Oracle, Workday, or a comparable cloud-based ERP platform.
      • Familiarity with SOX compliance programs, internal control frameworks, and financial governance.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial topics clearly to senior and cross-functional stakeholders.
      • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building capabilities, with the ability to develop effective cross-functional networks.
      • Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions effectively within a broad scope and in situations involving ambiguity.
      • Strong strategic thinking, organizational skills, attention to detail, and a hands-on approach to problem solving.
      • Ability to lead change, build scalable finance operations, and operate effectively within a growing international organization.
      • Candidates must be based in the Greater Hyderabad area, as the role is primarily on-site.
      • Benefits:

        • Annual salary range of ₹3,385,305 to ₹4,400,865, depending on qualifications, experience, location, and business considerations.
        • Potential eligibility for additional compensation through performance-based bonus programs and, where applicable, equity opportunities.
        • Opportunity to establish and lead a dedicated India finance function with significant ownership and strategic influence.
        • Senior-level exposure to international accounting, tax, treasury, compliance, financial governance, and consolidation.
        • Opportunity to lead the transition from outsourced finance operations to an in-house model.
        • Hands-on involvement in a major ERP implementation and finance transformation initiative.
        • Collaboration with global finance teams and senior cross-functional stakeholders.
        • Opportunity to shape scalable processes, internal controls, and finance policies for a growing organization.
        • Professional growth through exposure to U.S. GAAP, Indian statutory requirements, SOX controls, international subsidiaries, and cross-border finance operations.
