Job Description

The TLC oversees a transportation ecosystem that moves nearly 1 million riders every single day the equivalent of the entire Boston transit system. TLC is the agency responsible for regulating New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry. With approximately 180,000 licensed drivers, 1,000 businesses, 115,000 vehicles including and the iconic yellow taxi at the heart of our city’s identity, TLC is entering a new era of dignity, accountability, and collaboration across the for hire vehicle sector. TLC continues to be on the front lines of a rapidly changing mobility landscape and our innovative efforts--whether requiring minimum pay for app drivers, ensuring wheelchair accessible service, making our licensed fleet more environmentally sustainable, working to eliminate traffic fatalities, or preventing discriminatory service--often serve as a model for other cities.

The Prosecution Division investigates and prosecutes summonses issued by TLC which consist of administrative, field, and consumer-initiated complaints. The division prosecutes a wide range of violations including reckless driving, unlicensed operation, illegal street pickups, harassment, and leaving the scene of an accident.

Under the leadership of the Managing Attorney for Prosecution, and the direct supervision of the Senior Supervising Attorney, the Supervising Attorney of the Settlements (Settlements) Unit will assist the Senior Supervising Attorney in the daily management of the Settlements Unit and will primarily focus on overseeing the division’s processing and issuance of stipulations based upon individual and batch settlement requests, creating and implementing settlements policies and procedures, managing withdrawals and reissues of summonses, generating settlements reports, and creating applicable trainings as needed.

Responsibilities will also include but are not limited to: assisting the Managing Attorney and the Senior Supervising Attorneys of the Consumer Complaint, Adjudications and/or Settlements units, and all other sub-units, in the Prosecution Division as needed.

Note:
New Hire Rate: $83,000
After two (2) years of city employment: $95,450

Qualifications

1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
