The Position

Technical Product Owner - Legal - RDT Group Functions

We are looking for an experienced Technical Business Analyst and Product Owner to partner with Business Product Owners and stakeholders in Legal to translate requirements into strategic digital solutions. You will work closely with the IT Product Manager to shape the strategic vision, roadmap, and delivery of Legal-related products within Roche. This includes supporting platforms that span global teams across both Pharma and Diagnostics.

The Technical Business Analyst and Product Owner will play a key role in analyzing complex business processes, identifying optimization opportunities, and enabling the automation and digitization of workflows - ranging from review and approval to oversight, monitoring, and governance frameworks - while ensuring alignment with the "One Roche" philosophy.

About Our Team: RDT Legal Product

Sitting within the broader Legal, Compliance & Group Communication division, our team partners with the Legal department to enable efficiency and effectiveness through legal-specific solutions. Working hand-in-hand, we blend IT expertise with business know-how to support Legal at every step of their digital journey.

The Legal Product portfolio covers solutions for legal spend and matter management, document management, and contract management, as well as workflows and reporting. We handle the entire lifecycle of these solutions - whether we build (make) or buy, manage, or operate them.

Key Responsibilities

Business Requirements & Process Analysis

  • Conduct detailed discovery and analysis of processes across legal global teams to identify current pain points, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.

  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications and technical requirements for development teams.

  • Develop comprehensive business cases and impact assessments for legal products, quantifying benefits (cost reduction, time savings, risk mitigation) aligned to organizational goals.

  • Create and maintain detailed process maps, workflow diagrams, and requirements documentation to ensure shared understanding across stakeholders.

Strategic Alignment & Partnership

  • Collaborate with the Business Product Owner to define product strategies and outcomes that address organizational business objectives.

  • Actively contribute to the global legal technology strategy through technical insights and feasibility analysis, including the development and alignment of long-term goals (e.g., Data Domain & AI-driven solutions).

  • Partner with external vendors and internal teams across Roche to assess existing platforms, propose innovative approaches, and ensure optimal solutions for Legal Products.

  • Conduct gap analysis between current state processes and target state solutions to inform product roadmap decisions.

Vendor Selection & Requirement Management

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and the Business Owner on vendor evaluations by defining functional and technical requirements, evaluating software capabilities, and contributing expert technical criteria to Request for Proposals (RFPs).

  • Build trust and act as a key interface between Roche and external service providers to ensure value delivery, feasibility, and alignment with Roche standards.

  • Engage closely with Procurement to adopt Roche good practice and ensure sufficient due diligence is applied, not only on functional and technically fit, but also fulfilling the security and privacy requirements, especially on sensitive or confidential information and data protection considerations.

  • Develop and refine Request for Proposals (RFPs), evaluation frameworks, and vendor scorecards aligned to business priorities.

Cross-Functional Stakeholder Management & Requirement Harmonization

  • Facilitate requirements workshops and discovery sessions across Legal to gather, consolidate, and prioritize business needs.

  • Act as a critical liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, translating business requirements into technical approaches and vice versa.

  • Reconcile conflicting stakeholder requirements related to functionality, timelines, funding, and feasibility, proposing data-driven prioritization recommendations.

  • Align requirements across Pharma and Diagnostics to advance a "One Roche" strategy across technical infrastructure and data governance.

Product Development & Implementation

  • Own the Technical Solution definition and business requirements management for legal platforms from the ideation stage through delivery, adoption, support and transition.

  • Define incremental goals with measurable business outcomes, enabling continuous value delivery and feature refinement.

  • Develop detailed acceptance criteria, test scenarios, and success metrics tied to business objectives (process efficiency, compliance, effectiveness, user adoption).

  • Collaborate with technical teams on development, enhancement, and integration activities for legal platforms.

  • Assess whether to integrate systems into broader Roche platforms or develop or buy standalone solutions based on stakeholder goals, regulatory and compliance requirements.

  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT), training requirements, and change management planning based on business impact analysis.

Governance, Risk, and Compliance

  • Ensure all legal platforms align with Roche’s legal, regulatory, data privacy, and security standards; document compliance requirements and audit trails.

  • Monitor regulatory and industry trends in the legal landscape, evaluating impacts to current and future product requirements.

  • Maintain traceability between business requirements, regulatory requirements, and implemented solutions.

Product Operations & Life Cycle Management:

  • Vendor Release Management: Coordinate with external SaaS and software vendors to track, evaluate, and implement technical releases, ensuring smooth system upgrades with minimal impact on business operations.

  • Application Health & Performance: Partner with support teams to monitor product performance, track system uptime, resolve application-specific issues, and act as a senior technical escalation point for Level 2/3 support pipelines.

  • Technical Debt & Lifecycle Maintenance: Proactively identify, track, and prioritize technical debt, system bugs, and minor enhancement requests within the product backlog alongside new feature requests.

  • Documentation & Technical Readiness: Own the creation and maintenance of technical product documentation, system configurations, and technical release notes to ensure operational readiness for all platform updates.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven experience conducting business analysis, requirements elicitation, and process modeling, ideally in the environment of Legal.

  • Exceptional ability to build trust and facilitate alignment across multifunctional, global teams with competing priorities.

  • Skilled at translating between business and technical languages, presenting business cases and technical options to executive and technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating stakeholder alignment on vision, priorities, and decisions,  resolving conflicts and navigating complex organizational dynamics through diplomacy and data-driven recommendations.

  • Strong presentation and written communication skills for requirements documentation, status reports, and leadership updates.

Problem Solving & Business Acumen

  • Understanding of processes in Legal in a global corporate context, specifically within the pharmaceutical or diagnostics industry.

  • Proven ability to evaluate impact of IT decisions on business objectives and translate business goals into technical requirements.

  • Solution-oriented approach with proficiency in managing ambiguity and identifying pragmatic pathways forward.

  • Focus on delivering measurable business value incrementally and identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
