To become a lawyer in Morocco you first earn a bachelor's degree in law (licence en droit) from a Moroccan law faculty or recognized equivalent. You then pass the competitive bar-aptitude exam (Examen d'aptitude a la profession d'avocat), organized by the Ministry of Justice, to obtain a certificate of aptitude. Next you complete a mandatory traineeship (stage), commonly around three years, as an avocat stagiaire under a supervising lawyer (patron) and governed by the local bar. Finally you are enrolled on the roll of a local Ordre des Avocats / Barreau (such as Casablanca or Rabat), the bars being federated under the Association des Barreaux du Maroc; bar membership is required to practise. (A reform raising the entry qualification to a master's degree has been proposed, so verify current requirements.)
The local Ordres des Avocats / Barreaux (e.g. the Casablanca and Rabat bars), of which there are around seventeen across the Kingdom, federated nationally under the Association des Barreaux du Maroc (ABM). Bar membership is mandatory to practise; the Ministry of Justice organizes the qualifying exam.
