How do I become a lawyer in Pakistan?

To become a lawyer (advocate) in Pakistan you first complete a recognised LLB from a university approved by the Pakistan Bar Council. You then do a period of chamber training (commonly around six months) under a senior advocate and pass the Law Graduate Assessment Test (LAW-GAT) with at least 50 percent; the test is run on the Pakistan Bar Council's behalf (now by the Higher Education Commission, formerly the National Testing Service). You must also complete the relevant provincial bar council's enrolment process, which includes a viva-voce, after which you are enrolled as an advocate. Enrolment is tiered: you start in the lower courts and later qualify to appear before the High Courts and ultimately the Supreme Court of Pakistan as you gain experience.

Who regulates lawyers in Pakistan?

Pakistan Bar Council is the apex regulator, working with the provincial bar councils (Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and the Islamabad Bar Council) that handle enrolment and licensing of advocates.
