To become a lawyer (abogado) in Peru, first complete a university law degree and obtain the bachiller en derecho, then earn the professional title of abogado, registering your degree with SUNEDU. Peru has no single national bar exam; instead, to practise you must register (colegiatura) with a regional Colegio de Abogados, the most prominent being the Colegio de Abogados de Lima. After submitting your documents (including criminal-record clearance) and being sworn in, you receive your registration and professional ID. From that point you are entitled to practise law.
