To become a lawyer in Samoa you first obtain a recognised law degree, commonly an LLB from the University of the South Pacific, New Zealand or another recognised institution, and meet the general qualification requirements under the Lawyers and Legal Practice Act 2014. You then apply to the Supreme Court of Samoa for admission as a barrister and solicitor, supported by a Samoa Law Society certificate confirming your good character and qualifications, and take the prescribed oath or affirmation. Samoan citizens can be admitted to the permanent roll, while non-citizens may be admitted to a temporary roll for limited periods. To actually practise you must be a member of the Samoa Law Society and hold a current practising certificate.
