How do I become a lawyer in Slovenia?

To become an attorney (odvetnik) in Slovenia, first earn a university law degree from a recognised faculty (such as the University of Ljubljana or University of Maribor). Then complete a supervised legal traineeship and pass the pravniski drzavni izpit (State Legal Examination) administered by the Ministry of Justice. Finally, satisfy the Slovenian Bar Association (Odvetniska zbornica Slovenije), including its requirements on the Attorneys Act, tariff, and ethics code, and obtain entry in its register of attorneys. Only registered odvetniki may practise as attorneys; the judiciary and prosecution are entered through separate routes.
