To become an advocate in Tanzania (Mainland), first earn an LLB from a recognised university. Then complete the compulsory practical legal training programme at the Law School of Tanzania. You must satisfy the oral interview/examination before the panel of the Council for Legal Education, then petition the Chief Justice for admission, after which you are sworn in and enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court. Admission as an advocate is overseen by the Council for Legal Education and ultimately granted by the Chief Justice / High Court. (Note: Zanzibar has a separate legal profession and bar.)
