To become an avocat in Luxembourg, first obtain a recognized law degree at master's level. Because practice requires knowledge of Luxembourg law and its languages, you must pass the complementary courses in Luxembourg law (CCDL) and obtain that certificate, and demonstrate proficiency in French, German, and Luxembourgish. You then take the lawyer's oath and register as a trainee lawyer (avocat stagiaire) on list 2 of the Bar of Luxembourg, and complete a judicial traineeship (stage judiciaire) of at least two years. After passing the final stage examination (examen de fin de stage), you are admitted as an avocat à la Cour and entered on list 1, allowing you to practise fully.
