The United Kingdom remains one of the world's premier legal markets, with London serving as a global center for international arbitration, finance law, and cross-border transactions. The UK legal sector employs over 380,000 professionals across Magic Circle firms, Silver Circle firms, US firm London offices, and a robust in-house counsel ecosystem. Post-Brexit regulatory divergence has created new demand for trade law and regulatory advisory specialists.

In England and Wales you choose between two branches: solicitor or barrister. To become a solicitor you need a degree or equivalent, must pass the SRA's two-stage Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE1 and SQE2), and complete two years of qualifying work experience before being admitted to the Roll. To become a barrister you complete a law degree or conversion course, join one of the four Inns of Court, complete an approved Bar training course (the vocational stage) and the required qualifying sessions, and undertake pupillage in chambers to be called to the Bar. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate routes and their own regulators.
